10th Annual Highlands Neighborhood Picnic

10 years ago, a neighbor suggested a neighborhood picnic. Coincidentally, the Los Altos Police contacted me about organizing Neighborhood Night Out. The Police said, “National Night Out is an extraordinary way to build neighborhood unity and strengthen police-community partnerships.”

Today, with the support of the Montclaire Parent Teacher Organization, who graciously arranges for the use permit for the school facilities, we are getting ready for the 10th Annual Neighborhood Picnic.

This community gathering has become one of our favorite traditions. Despite the busy-ness of everyone’s schedule, people make time to come out for this fun event on the first Tuesday of every August.

We meet up at Montclaire Elementary School to connect with friends, the Police, and Fire departments. It’s a great time to catch up with neighbors over a picnic/potluck dinner.

It’s also fun for the kids to see friends that they haven’t seen since school let out. The Chief of Police comes with police cars and motorcycles. The Fire Department brings a fire engine for the kids, too. Be sure to take a moment to say “Thanks!” to the police and fire departments for their service to our community.

I’ll be hosting the 3rd Annual Rock-Paper-Scissors Tournament of Champions. We started this last year and it was a lot of fun. There will be prizes for the top 3 winners!
